SUSAN DADE
A graduate of the prestigious Parsons School of Design, Susan began her career as a high fashion illustrator for Women's Wear Daily and Glamour Magazine. After her stint in the fashion world, Susan went on to teach in various New York art schools.
Tired of years spent living a hectic life in the city, Susan decided she was ready for a change of pace and a warmer climate. Having previously vacationed off the North Carolina coast, in 1994, Susan and her husband moved to St. James Plantation in Southport. Now, instead of sketching models, Susan concentrates her artistic endeavors on capturing the landscapes, seascapes, and lush marshes of the North Carolina coast.
Susan describes her style of painting as “free and loose” but prides herself on her attention to detail. Her choice of medium is watercolor, and her palette is vibrant and bold, perfectly suited for capturing Susan’s distinct, expressive style.
Susan’s work is featured in numerous private and corporate collections including The Brunswick County Courthouse, Dosher Memorial Hospital, Allegacy Federal Credit Union Headquarters, the University of North Carolina Wilmington, and Coldwell Banker.
Artist’s Statement:
“Since moving to North Carolina, I’ve been able to concentrate solely on painting. I have long been inspired by the natural beauty of the coastal region and longed for the chance to paint the sights I encountered when vacationing in the area. Now that I am living here, I’m taking full advantage of the opportunity to create seascapes featuring the boats, docks, and marshes. Now that I’ve painted so many landscapes, I’m starting to loosen my approach as I find new subjects to explore."
