Landscape painter, Curt Butler, finds the inspiration for his landscapes by exploring areas across the state, travelling from the Appalachian Mountains to the Piedmont, into the Coastal Plains of North Carolina. The Country Road Series is a group of encaustic oil paintings on canvas. The encaustic process involves mixing oil paints with a fixative of melted beeswax, then infusing or burning layer upon layer of paint and glazes using a high temperature heat gun. This method gives Curt the freedom to paint and carve using a palette knife, or apply paint by dripping it, allowing him to express his emotional response to his subject matter. The result is a series of dynamic compositions that are highly textural and atmospheric in tone.

Exhibition features the paintings by artists Linda Luise Brown, Mike Watson and Rod Wimer. All three artists work in abstract interpretations. Although their individual styles are unique, there is a common element they share; the effective use of color as a means of non-verbal communication. Through these vibrant compositions, filled with bold color, the artists evoke an emotional, personal response from the observer.
