ANDREW LEVENTIS
A native Charlottean, Leventis received his art education from various art institutions,
workshops and personal training and mentoring with master painters. In 1999, he
attended several workshops with landscape artists, Jay Moore and Kim Mackey in
Northern Colorado and with Caleb Stone in Monhegan Island, Maine.
In 2003, he moved to Fort Collins, Colorado to study Art History at Colorado
State University and Oil Painting at the Loveland Academy of Art. After much encouragement
from his teachers, Andrew moved to Chicago, where he studied figure painting at
the American Academy of Art. There, he had access to the collections of the Art
Institute of Chicago, the Chicago Cultural Center and, for a brief time, the Terra
Museum of Art.
Immediately after graduating with his BFA from the American Academy in 2006,
Andrew was fortunate to be able to travel throughout Italy during a painting workshop.
With a group of eight fellow students of art, he painted the countrysides of Umbria
and Tuscany while visiting the ancient cities of Sienna, Rome, Florence, and Assisi.
Andrew now resides in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he continues to paint
representational interpretations of the figure, landscape, and still life. He
plans to return to school in the future to obtain his Masters degree in Studio
Art and Art History.
Artist's Statement - I attempt to inject a unique perspective into the design elements that make up
each piece of my work. I regard the subjects of my paintings as integral parts
of a unified environment, with unique relationships in regards to one another,
rather than mere objects isolated before a traditional backdrop. Since I regard
imagination as one of the most significant aspects of being human, I consider
art to be the method of recording imagination. Therefore, one of the biggest challenges
for a painter is to constantly challenge the visual perspective of the viewer
and intrigue his or her own imagination to engage in the work.
